Deep Chandratal, also known as Deepchandi Taal, is an Indian rhythmic cycle commonly used in Hindustani classical music, especially in semi-classical and light compositions. It consists of 14 beats divided into 4 sections (Vibhags) with a pattern of 3+4+3+4. The structure includes three Taalis (claps) on the first, fifth, and ninth beats and one Khaali (wave) on the third beat.
Here is the Theka (basic rhythmic pattern) of Deep Chandratal:
- Dha Dhin | Dha Ti Dha | Tin Na | Dhin Dhin Dha Dhin
Deep Chandratal is popular in Thumri, Dadra, and other light classical compositions and provides a distinct rhythm suitable for expressive renditions.
